Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
When Jesus encounters the woman at the well in John 4, he knows that she has been bruised by a hard life. She’s searching for answers, questioning him about God and racism and worship. Jesus puts his finger on her pain and gives an invitation: he can satisfy her soul with living water.
In our search for meaning and significance, we look high and low for the things that can bring satisfaction, but the trouble is we never have enough. Acquiring more of any idol only creates a heartier appetite for it. It’s true for money, influence, sex, vacations, gadgets, automobiles, homes, boats, jobs… The list goes on.
What Jesus provides is a thirst quenching drink of living water. Come to Jesus, find satisfaction for your soul, and never be thirsty again.
Yours in Christ,
