“Fear not, for behold, I bring you Good News of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
The core of Christianity is not good advice; it is Good News. You see it in the angel’s message for the shepherds: not suggestions for what the they should do, but instead a declaration of what God has done.
Do you see the difference? Good advice tells us there are things we can do to overcome our situation, but Good News tells us what God has done to rescue our broken lives and broken world. Good advice has what other religions and philosophies offer: ways we can work to attain righteousness and purity. Good News has what Christianity offers: the truth that God has done for us what we could never do for ourselves. Good advice leaves us constantly wondering if we measure up. Good News frees us from anxiety and worry over our place with God.
Friends, hear the Good News of great joy: a Savior is born!
Grace and Peace,
