Dear Church Family,
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and i will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) But that’s not all Jesus says. Jesus also says, “learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart”. I’m reminded of when WWJD bracelets were all the rage. We were giving them out at schools, churches, and conferences. You’d hand the bracelet over as a reminder to use Jesus as the model for your decisions and behaviors. Trouble was, the bracelets were often given like a medal. The bracelets were often handed over with a hug, but no explanation. How did you know what Jesus would do? The givers of the bracelets hardly knew themselves.
So, when Jesus says “learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart” we have an invitation to not only follow Jesus and to learn from him, but a preface for how Jesus made his decisions. This week I invite you to pray on this phrase from Matthew 11:29. Write it on the top of your journal, put it on a sticky note for your car and computer screen. Maybe even tape it to your mirror in the bathroom as a reminder. Breathe in this phrase, “learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart” and see how Jesus’ words can transform your week.
With thanks and joy,
